EVAL-LTC9101-2A Product Core Overview

The EVAL-LTC9101-2A is an evaluation kit introduced by ADI, designed to evaluate and develop 48-port power sourcing equipment (PSE) controllers based on the LTC9101-2A and LTC9102 chipset. The kit fully complies with the IEEE 802.3at standard and supports evaluation of IEEE 802.3bt powered devices (PDs), making it an ideal tool for designing high-performance, high-port-density Power over Ethernet (PoE) equipment.

 

Core Components of the EVAL-LTC9101-2A Kit

The EVAL-LTC9101-2A kit comprises the DC3159A-D daughter card and DC3017A-B motherboard, integrating one LTC9101-2A digital controller and four LTC9102 (12-channel) analogue controllers to realise 48 PSE channels. The LTC9101-2A employs a proprietary isolated data interface, enabling direct connection to the host I²C bus without requiring costly optocouplers or additional 3.3V isolation power supplies, significantly reducing system BOM costs. This kit version supports power evaluation for up to 48 802.3af/at powered devices (PDs) via a dual-port Ethernet splitter, with host I²C control required for 2-pair power assessment.

Standard Compliance: Fully conforms to IEEE 802.3at Type 1/2 and 802.3bt standards, supporting power delivery to 802.3af/at PDs

High Integration: Single chipset supports flexible 12/24/48-port configurations with up to 25.5W per port

Low Power Design: Achieves industry-leading per-channel power consumption through 100mΩ sensing resistors and 30mΩ low RDS(ON) external MOSFETs

Reliable Detection Mechanism: Multi-point PD detection algorithm ensures high immunity to interference, prevents misidentification, and supports single-event and dual-event physical classification

Precise Monitoring: 14-bit real-time current/voltage monitoring per port, with programmable current limiting and fast shutdown

Interface Flexibility: Compatible with 1MHz I²C serial control interface, supporting pin or I²C programming

Electrical Protection: Port pins withstand +80V/-20V surges; integrated eFlash and data RAM with ECC protection

 

Evaluation Kit Feature Highlights

EVAL-LTC9101-2A incorporates LED indicators for rapid visualisation of real-time operational status across 48 power channels. An optional on-board buck regulator directly generates 3.3V supply for digital circuits from the VEE power source, simplifying evaluation setup. The kit includes comprehensive demonstration manuals, quick-start programs, and downloadable design files to facilitate rapid engineer onboarding. ADI provides I²C interface data sheets based on Software Request Forms (SRFs) and semi-automatic mode reference software to support in-depth secondary development.
