TI ADS54T04 High Linearity Dual Channel 12-Bit 500Msps BTS Feedback And Receiver
berita perusahaan terbaru tentang TI ADS54T04 High Linearity Dual Channel 12-Bit 500Msps BTS Feedback And Receiver

Shenzhen Mingjiada Electronics Co., Ltd. supplies the TI ADS54T04, a high-linearity, dual-channel, 12-bit, 500 Msps BTS feedback and receiver.

I. ADS54T04 Product Description
The ADS54T04 is a high-linearity, dual-channel, 12-bit analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) with a maximum sampling rate of 500 Msps, designed for use as the front-end for the receive channel and transmit feedback monitoring channel in base station transceivers (BTS). The device integrates high-impedance analogue input buffers on-chip, with a 3dB analogue input bandwidth exceeding 1.2 GHz, enabling direct sampling of multi-carrier broadband signals such as GSM/EDGE, WCDMA and LTE at relatively high intermediate frequencies, thereby effectively alleviating design pressures on the front-end anti-aliasing filter.

The ADS54T04 is specifically optimised for two scenarios: the digital pre-distortion (DPD) monitoring loop of BTS power amplifiers (PAs) and wideband receivers. In receive mode, the on-chip 2x decimation digital filter outputs a low-latency data stream; in feedback mode, it supports high-resolution output in burst mode. When used in conjunction with a trigger signal to capture broadband distortion signals from the PA output, it serves as a classic 12-bit high-speed ADC solution for monitoring loops and receive chains in macro base stations, micro base stations, repeaters and multi-channel RF transceiver boards.

II. ADS54T04 Key Specifications
Resolution: 12-bit; dual-channel independent sampling; maximum clock rate: 500 Msps; supports a programmable sampling range from 40 Msps to 500 Msps. The analogue input features a differential full-scale range of 1.0 Vpp, with a built-in high-impedance input buffer and a 3 dB input bandwidth exceeding 1.2 GHz. In terms of dynamic performance, under an IF of fin = 230 MHz, the typical SNR is 60.6 dBFS and the typical SFDR is 77 dBc; with second and third harmonics (HD2/HD3) at approximately 80 dBc; at an IF of fin = 700 MHz, the SNR is typically 59.4 dBFS and the SFDR is typically 70 dBc; typical channel-to-channel crosstalk reaches 90 dB.

The data output interface utilises double-data-rate low-voltage differential signalling (DDR LVDS), with 12-bit parallel output per channel, equipped with independent channel data clocks, multi-chip synchronisation (SYNCOUT) signals and OVR out-of-range indication. The control interface is a three-wire/four-wire compatible SPI serial port. The power supply system comprises a 3.3 V analogue power supply (AVDD33) and a 1.8 V power supply group for analogue, clock, digital and LVDS circuits. Typical total power consumption is approximately 1.6 W (with automatic calibration and decimation filter disabled); with automatic calibration enabled, it is approximately 1.78 W, with power consumption per channel at approximately 800 mW. It is housed in a 196-pin ball grid array (BGA) package measuring 12 mm × 12 mm, with an operating junction temperature range of –40 °C to +85 °C, meeting the environmental requirements for outdoor base stations and industrial communications equipment.

III. Key Features of the ADS54T04
The primary feature of the ADS54T04 is its dual-mode architecture. A single device can be configured either as a conventional receive-channel ADC or as a DPD feedback observation-channel ADC, enabling BTS manufacturers to cover both the receive and observation chains using a unified device platform, thereby simplifying BOM and spare parts management.

The second key feature is the on-chip 2x decimation digital filter. In receive mode, low-pass or high-pass decimation can be selected based on a sampling rate of 500 Msps, reducing the output rate to 250 Msps. Passband ripple is approximately 0.1 dB, the passband width accounts for approximately 41 per cent of the Nyquist bandwidth, and stopband attenuation is approximately 40 dB, enabling direct interfacing with the downsampling and digital down-conversion chains in the FPGA back-end.

The third key feature is burst output in feedback mode. For full-bandwidth DPD observation scenarios, the device supports high-resolution burst data output triggered by the TRIGGER pin, whilst indicating data validity to the FPGA via the TRDY and HRES signals. This, in conjunction with the PA shutdown window, enables the precise capture of the broadband distortion envelope of the transmit channel.

The fourth key feature is the tiered power-saving architecture. Via SPI registers, the device can be configured to four power consumption modes: fully powered off, standby, deep sleep and light sleep. Power consumption in the powered-off and standby modes is approximately 7 mW; in deep sleep mode, it ranges from 282 mW to 370 mW, with a wake-up time of 20 µs; in light sleep mode, power consumption ranges from 549 mW to 650 mW, with a wake-up time of 2 µs. This accommodates base station energy-saving scenarios such as carrier shutdown, channel sleep and multi-carrier time-division multiplexing.

The fifth key feature is high-impedance buffered inputs and multi-chip synchronisation. The on-chip buffer maintains a consistent input impedance across a wide frequency range, reducing the difficulty of matching the front-end balun and operational amplifier drivers; the SYNCOUT and OVR signals support strict synchronised sampling of multiple ADS54T04 devices on the same BTS board, facilitating the construction of multi-channel MIMO receive arrays and multi-carrier observation loops.

IV. Typical Applications of the ADS54T04
The ADS54T04 is designed for the receiver channels of macro- and micro-cell base station transceivers (BTS), enabling direct sampling of multi-carrier intermediate frequencies (IFs) for multi-mode 3G (WCDMA/CDMA2000) and 4G LTE/LTE-A systems. The second major application area is the digital pre-distortion (DPD) observation feedback path for base station power amplifiers, where it acts as the feedback ADC for the transmit channel to capture the PA output signal. Furthermore, this device is widely used in signal repeaters and relays, multi-channel software-defined radio (SDR) platforms, spectrum monitoring and agile receivers, broadband communications test equipment, as well as aviation and industrial-grade multi-channel high-speed data acquisition systems.

V. Buyer’s Selection and Guidance
When procuring the ADS54T04, it is recommended to first confirm the system’s intermediate frequency (IF) location and bandwidth requirements. If the system’s operating frequency band is primarily concentrated within 230 MHz and requires high SNR and SFDR margins, the dynamic performance of the ADS54T04 will directly meet these requirements; if the signal is at an intermediate frequency of 700 MHz or above, SFDR margins should be factored into the sampling clock and front-end filter design, and an assessment should be made as to whether an upgrade to a successor model with higher linearity is required.

Secondly, data interface compatibility must be verified. The ADS54T04 features a DDR LVDS parallel interface rather than a JESD204B serial interface; therefore, when procuring the device, it is essential to confirm that the back-end FPGA or ASIC possesses the corresponding LVDS parallel receive resources (12 pairs of data lines plus a clock pair per channel). If a new design requires a JESD204B interface, reduced cabling and higher integration, upgraded models such as the TI ADS54J series can be evaluated on the same platform; if an existing design is already laid out around a parallel LVDS bus, the ADS54T04 is a mature and reliable choice.

Thirdly, confirm the power supply and power consumption budget. The device requires both a 3.3V and multiple 1.8V power supplies; when supplying multiple devices on a single board, the power tree capacity must be assessed, and attention must be paid to LVDS output termination and equal-length routing. Fourthly, verify the package type and lead times. The 196-pin, 12mm × 12mm BGA imposes certain requirements on PCB routing; during the prototyping stage, it is recommended to obtain evaluation boards and IBIS models from the original manufacturer or authorised channels to verify signal integrity. For volume procurement, it is advisable to secure supplies from the original manufacturer or authorised distributors based on annual consumption, whilst maintaining a stock of spare parts for at least one version (package, temperature grade).
